280 members of the Afghan security forces were dismissed for not having beards

More than 280 members of Afghanistan’s security forces have been fired by the country’s ruling Taliban for not having beards. Besides, more than 13 thousand people have been arrested in the country in the last one year for being involved in immoral activities.

On Tuesday (August 20), officials of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Ethics reported this information, Reuters reported.

Recently, the annual update report of the country’s Ministry of Prevention of Sin and Promotion of Virtue has been published. According to the report, almost half of the detainees were released after 24 hours of detention. In this case, the type of crime or the gender of the accused did not matter.

Mohibullah Mokhlis, director of the ministry’s planning and legal department, told a press conference that officials destroyed 21,328 musical instruments in the past year and stopped thousands of computer operators from selling immoral films in the market.

He also said that 280 members of the security forces were dismissed after being identified as not having beards.

Note that after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, the country’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs was dissolved. The Ministry of Prevention of Sin and Promotion of Virtue was established in the building of that Ministry.

Various international human rights organizations, including the United Nations, have criticized this ministry in Afghanistan, accusing it of various restrictions against women and preventing freedom of expression.
