Floods and landslides in Nepal due to heavy rains, 129 dead

At least 129 people have died in floods and landslides caused by two days of heavy rain in Nepal. Besides, 62 people are missing.

According to Reuters, due to the floods, normal life and traffic has come to a standstill in the Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is located in this region. The region of 4 million inhabitants recorded 37 deaths.

On Sunday, the country’s officials said, due to these natural disasters, educational institutions in the affected areas of Nepal have been closed for three days.

Authorities said students and their parents are facing difficulties as the university and school buildings have been damaged by the rain. The buildings must be repaired.

Some parts of the capital recorded a maximum of 322.2 millimeters (12.7 inches) of rain, experts said. In this, the water of Bagmati, the main river of the region, is flowing 2.2 meters (7 feet) above the boundary line.

However, on Sunday morning local time, the rain was reducing in some areas, according to meteorologist Govind Jha.

He said isolated rains may occur in some areas, but there is no chance of heavy rains.
