Maldivian FM Explores Collaborative Solutions with Sri Lanka’s Leadership

Colombo: Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, as part of his ongoing visit to neighboring Sri Lanka, has met with the nation’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The meeting on Wednesday saw discussions regarding further enhancing ties between the two neighboring nations.

Earlier on Wednesday, Zameer met his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry, during which both ministers discussed on working together to combat illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing activities in the countries’ respective EEZs and beyond.

Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Minister Zameer said the two nations discussed taking stringent measures against illegal fisheries activities as they are “greatly dependent on fishing”.

He also noted that the Maldives also offered to provide knowledge on sustainable pole and line fishing to Sri Lankan fishermen.

Apart from this, a diverse array of topics of mutual interests, including cooperation in the areas of economy and trade, education, tourism, employment, legal and law enforcement, and regional and multilateral cooperation.
