Bangkok : Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar held talks on the sidelines of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in Bangkok on Monday.

Foreign Minister Saud left on a three-day visit to Thailand on Sunday to attend the foreign ministers’ retreat.

Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar said that the duo agreed on working closely to implement the agenda of cooperation set out by the respective leaderships of the South Asian neighbours.

“Good meeting with Nepal Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud. Agreed to work closely to implement the agenda of cooperation set out by our leaderships,” read the tweet.

The Indian minister further added that the Southern neighbour was willing to remain in regular communication and work in the best interests of both countries.

Nepal and India, during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s India visit in June, had reached various agreements including a 25-year agreement on electricity trade.

During the joint press meet of the two heads of the government, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to increase the quantum of energy import from Nepal to 10,000 MW within the next 10 years.

However, the India side is now subjecting the approval process for importing Nepali electricity to more bureaucratic hurdles despite its earlier announcement.
