USA appoints first ever Ambassador to the Maldives
The United States' first designated ambassador to the Maldives, Hugo Yue-Ho Yon, took the oath of office during a ceremony held on Tuesday.

The United States of America (USA) has appointed its first ever Ambassador to the Maldives.
Previously, the US designated ambassadors to both the Maldives and Sri Lanka concurrently, with their stationing at the Sri Lankan embassy.
The United States’ first designated ambassador to the Maldives, Hugo Yue-Ho Yon, took the oath of office during a ceremony held on Tuesday.
Following Hugo’s official inauguration, the US Department of State highlighted the Maldives’ significance as a crucial ally of the United States, expressing optimism that the bilateral relationship between the two nations would further strengthen during Hugo’s tenure as ambassador.
While the United States has appointed its ambassador to the Maldives, the country had previously announced its plans to establish an embassy in the Maldives.
