Atishi took oath as the youngest Chief Minister of Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi Marlena Singh has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal resigned as Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday after being released from jail on bail in the Delhi liquor policy case. Four days later, Atishi took oath as the new Chief Minister on Saturday. He is the youngest leader to become the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Atishi and members of his new cabinet met Kejriwal before taking the oath, Indian media NDTV reported.

Atish’s swearing-in ceremony was largely low-key as Kejriwal resigned to AAP.

Atishi became the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi. Before that Sushma Swaraj of BJP and Sheila Dixit of Congress became the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Atishi is an elected MLA from Kalkaji in South Delhi. He was also a member of Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet. After becoming the chief minister, he now has to prove his government’s majority in the Delhi assembly. The issue will be voted on in a special session of the Legislative Assembly on September 26 and 27.

Born in Delhi in 1981, this former student of Oxford University joined AAP in 2013.

Recently, Kejriwal got bail from the Supreme Court in the Excise corruption case. Two days after his release from prison, he suddenly announced his resignation from the Chief Ministership in a meeting of the party on Sunday.

Kejriwal said that he wants to return to the seat of the chief minister after winning the assembly elections. That is why he decided to resign.

Atishi was announced as the next Chief Minister of Delhi two days after Kejriwal announced his resignation as Chief Minister.

Delhi assembly elections are due in February. However, Kejriwal demanded that Delhi elections be held in addition to the Maharashtra polls in November by bringing forward the time.
