14 people lost their lives in floods in Sri Lanka

At least 14 people have been killed in flash floods, landslides and uprooted trees caused by monsoon storms in the South Asian island nation of Sri Lanka.

On Sunday, the country’s National Disaster Center reported that the loss of life occurred in natural disasters. Three members of the same family drowned near Colombo on Sunday.

The country’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) said several others, including an 11-year-old girl and a 20-year-old youth, were buried alive under the collapsed ground.

The DMC says nine more people have been killed by falling trees in seven districts since the onset of heavy monsoon rains on May 21.
