2.5 million people are watertight in 30 districts of Assam

The flood situation worsened in Assam, India. The death toll in the floods has risen to 56, the state’s official bulletin said. In addition, 2.5 million people are trapped in water in 30 districts. This information was revealed in a report of the Indian media The Hindu.

Water is flowing above the danger mark at several places in Brahmaputra, Digaru and Kallong rivers in the state. More than 3 thousand 200 villages have been flooded. Various infrastructure including dams, roads, bridges have been damaged. Many districts have been cut off due to submergence of roads.

The flood affected districts include Kachar, Kamrup, Hailakandi, Hojai, Dhubri, Nagaon, Morigaon, Goalpara, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, Dakshin Salmara, Darrang and Tinsukia. Districts include

Dibrugarh district was the worst affected by the floods. Chief Minister Hemant Vishwasharma held a meeting with officials to improve the flood situation in the state.

The chief minister said, “We are working tirelessly to listen to the grievances of the people and solve their problems”.

Meanwhile, the local meteorological office of Assam has predicted heavy rain for the next few days. As a result, it is feared that the flood situation may further deteriorate.
