22 people died in heavy rain in Pakistan

Heavy rains, thunderstorms and hail continued to lash several districts of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, including Quetta, the capital, killing at least 22 people in various incidents.

Heavy rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm lashed Quetta Valley with short breaks throughout the day on Saturday. The main roads and streets of Quetta city were submerged in water. Many houses were swept away by the landslide.

A large tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran overturned on the Quetta-Taftan highway in Noshki district and fell into a nearby drain. As the tanker veered off the highway due to the collision, the driver lost control, at one point the vehicle was swept away by the current.

However, the tanker’s driver and others on board were able to escape safely, according to Pakistani media Dawn Online.

The local Bolan River, Nari Ghaz-Mula River and other temporary streams are overflowing with flood water. The basin areas of these rivers receive heavy rains.

Temperatures have dropped in several districts of northern Balochistan due to continuous rains. Local residents are forced to use gas heaters and wear warm clothes to keep their homes warm.

Earlier this month, Balochistan received two consecutive heavy rains. Even then, many areas of Quetta, the capital city of the province, were submerged. This time too, many areas of the city went under. Not only the low-lying areas of the city, but also the main areas are greatly affected. Almost all roads and markets in the main area of the city were submerged in knee-deep water.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more rains with thundershowers in different parts of Balochistan.
