30 terrorists were killed in an army operation in Afghanistan

The Pakistan Army claimed to have killed at least 30 Afghan terrorists by conducting operations in different parts of the country in the last 30 days. Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claimed this in a statement on Monday.

Pakistan’s ISPR, in a statement detailing the ongoing anti-terror operation, said the military is monitoring parts of the border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The statement also mentioned that an army major was killed in an operation a week ago.

Reiterating its call on Kabul to “ensure effective border management”, the army statement said the Pakistan Army expects the Taliban government to fulfill its obligations and not allow terrorists to use Afghan soil to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan.

There was no immediate response from the ruling Taliban in Afghanistan to Pakistan’s claim. However, the government and army of Pakistan have made such allegations before and the Taliban government has rejected them. The Taliban government’s clear answer is that they are not allowing anyone to use Afghan territory to threaten neighboring countries or beyond.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has always said that fugitive commanders and fighters of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP are taking advantage of the ‘safe haven’ of Afghanistan to carry out deadly attacks against Pakistani security forces and common people.

The Washington-based Center for a New American Security released its report on Tuesday, saying the TTP and other regional militant groups are active in Pakistan and are receiving support in their operations from sources that share their core ideology.

Citing a recent United Nations report highlighting the Taliban’s close ties to al-Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan, it noted that al-Qaeda leaders are now part of the Taliban’s administrative structure and are building their own training camps in Afghanistan.
