37 people died of toxic alcohol in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, India, 37 people have lost their lives due to toxic alcohol consumption. Besides, 60 more people have been admitted to the hospital. The death toll is expected to rise.

The incident took place in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurchi district on Thursday.

The Kallakurchi administration has directed the hospitals to provide proper treatment to the sick.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over the loss of life.

It is known that in Kallakurchi district on Wednesday one after another people fell ill after drinking poisonous liquor. Then the death march began. As soon as this news came to light, the DMK government of Tamil Nadu took strict action. Besides transferring the DC of Kallakurchi, the Superintendent of Police of the district was also suspended.

Besides, the Tamil Nadu state government has suspended several police officers.

After that incident, the police raided the illegal liquor shop and arrested the owner. Besides, several hundred liters of liquor have been confiscated. There is a lot of excitement around such incidents in the state.

The DMK government has ordered an investigation into the incident. Expressing grief and sorrow over the death of 37 people, Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote in a post on his X handle, “I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of the death of people after consuming poisoned liquor.” Those involved in this crime have been arrested. Action has been taken against the officials for failing to resist.

He further wrote, such crimes will not be tolerated in any way. It will be suppressed with strong hands.

Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition party in the state, instead of going to the EPS assembly session, is going to the spot today to meet the families of the deceased.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi also expressed grief over the incident and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The governor wrote on the X handle post on behalf of the Raj Bhavan, ‘I am saddened to know that many people have lost their lives in Kallakurchi due to consumption of poisonous liquor. My heartfelt condolences to those who are seriously ill, fighting for their lives. We wish speedy recovery to the affected families and the hospitalized patients.

Deaths due to consumption of poisoned liquor are frequent in Tamil Nadu. Expressing concern in this regard, the governor said that there are often reports of deaths in the state due to consumption of poisonous liquor. This clearly shows the government’s error, which is very worrying.
