The Labor Party won the general election in the United Kingdom. The Conservative Party, which has been in power for 14 consecutive years in the country, has collapsed. Four candidates of Bangladeshi origin have won the Labor Party nomination in this election.
According to the BBC, a party needs 326 seats to win a single majority in the UK. Labor party secured victory in 412 seats. On the other hand, the Conservative Party got 121 seats.
Ruling Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has already accepted defeat and congratulated Labor leader Keir Starmer. In this huge victory for the Labor Party, four candidates of Bangladeshi origin also contested.
Rushnara Ali
Rushnara Ali has been elected MP from the Labor Party for the fifth time in a row. He won the Bethnal Green and Bow seat in Tower Hamlets. It is known that Rushnara Ali was elected by getting 15 thousand 896 votes. His nearest independent candidate Ajmal Mashroor got 14 thousand 207 votes.
Rushnara Ali is the first MP of Bangladeshi origin in the UK Parliament. He was previously elected MP for four consecutive terms since 2010 in the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in London’s Bangladeshi-dominated Tower Hamlets. Rushnara Ali has served as the Shadow Minister for International Development since 2010. He was then appointed Shadow Minister of State for Education in October 2013.
Tulip Siddiq
Tulip Siddique, daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Sheikh Rehana, also won from the Labor Party in the UK national election. He has been re-elected as MP from Hampstead and Highgate constituency in Britain.
Media BBC reported that Tulip got 23 thousand 432 votes in this election. His rival Conservative Party candidate Don Williams got 8,462 votes.
After the win, Tulip Siddique said, “Congratulations to everyone.” With your prayers, I was elected for the fourth time.
He also said that the Bangladeshi community has always supported me. I am very thankful to them that they have supported me this time as well.

According to the website of the British government, Rupa Haque has been re-elected in Ealing Central and Acton seats in West London in this election. Three received 46.8 percent of the total votes counted.
Rupa Haque was elected MP for the first time in 2015 on the nomination of the Labor Party. After that, he was elected MP for three consecutive times. This time too he won on Labor Party ticket.
In October 2016, Rupa Haque became the Shadow Home Minister of the Labor Party. He was appointed Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Music Group and the All-Party Parliamentary Position of Crossrail.
Afsana Begum
Afsana Begum has won the Labor Party nomination for the second time in the Poplar and Limehouse constituency in East London. He won this election by getting a total of 18 thousand 535 votes.
Afsana’s rival Green Party’s Nathalie Benefit 5 thousand 975, Conservative Party’s Freddie Downing 4 thousand 738, independent candidate Afsana’s ex-husband Ehteshamul Haque got 4 thousand 554 votes. Reacting after winning, he said on social media X, “I am happy to be re-elected.”
