40 percent of Pakistanis want to leave the country in the hope of a better life
40 percent of people in Pakistan do not want to stay in their motherland in the hope of a better life. According to a study published by the country’s National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) on Thursday, Pakistan has risen to the fifth place in the list of countries responsible for the largest number of illegal immigrants in Europe.
According to some data, about 40 percent of Pakistanis want to leave the country due to economic difficulties, political uncertainty, lack of educational opportunities, lack of employment, inflation and terrorism.
These research findings were presented at an event in Karachi with the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Express Tribune gave this news in a report on Friday (November 16).
NCHR Chairperson Rabia Zaveri Agha said illegal migration is increasing despite the serious difficulties and risks to life on the illegal route.
Speaking at the event, Agha said the situation has improved following the adoption of strong laws and other measures to curb the trend after more than 300 Pakistanis were killed on the Greek coast.
Speaking at the event, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Karatul Ain Marri said the study was indicative of a serious problem.
He said, “This study points to our internal problems and challenges that require a coordinated and effective strategy to address them. The Senate Human Rights Committee will play an active role in addressing these issues.”
According to the study, Pakistan was not even among the top ten countries for illegal immigration in Europe in 2022. But by mid-2023, the country had become the fifth largest country for illegal immigration. Between December 2023 alone, 8,778 people crossed into Europe illegally.
Pakistani migrants mostly use the route to Europe via Dubai, Egypt and Libya. It said that about 13,000 Pakistanis reached Europe through this route in the first half of 2023, and about 10,000 of them never returned.
