5 new non-permanent members including Pakistan in UN Security Council

Five countries have been elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for two years. The countries will be responsible from the first day of 2025.

Newly elected are Pakistan, Somalia, Panama, Denmark and Greece. This was reported by the AP news agency on Friday.

Voting for the election of new members took place on Tuesday. Denmark got 184 votes, Panama got 183 votes, Greece and Pakistan got 182 votes and Somalia got 179 votes. The countries will replace Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Switzerland and Mozambique in the 15-member Security Council.

The five permanent members of the Security Council are the United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and the United States; Who have veto power. The remaining 10 non-permanent members are elected for two-year terms.
