7 people died due to Cyclone Remal in West Bengal

At least seven people have died after Cyclone Remal hit India’s West Bengal. The intensity of storm and rain was so high that in the last 24 hours maximum wind speed was recorded at 91 kmph and rainfall was recorded at 260 mm. Besides, more than four hundred trees were uprooted due to this cyclone.

Citing local authorities, the Indian news media Telegraph India reported that under the influence of Cyclone Remal, more than four hundred trees were uprooted in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state, and surrounding cities. Communication is disrupted.

Meanwhile, at least seven people have been killed in various districts of southern West Bengal due to Cyclone Rimal. A father is also among the dead. who went out in search of his son and was killed by a piece of cornice on his head. His son was stuck at a friend’s house to watch the IPL final. The father went out to look for him.

In East Burdwan district, a father and son died after being electrocuted by an electric cable that was snapped due to the cyclone. An 80-year-old woman was crushed to death in her house in Mausuni area of South 24 Parganas district. Two more died due to electrocution in Panihati and Maheshtala of North 24 Parganas district. Another person died in Haldia area of the state.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Remal started hitting the Sundarbans region of Bangladesh at around 8:30 pm last Sunday as a severe cyclone. The center of the storm was about 25 km from the edge of Sundarbans on the Indian side and about 140 km from Kolkata. The main part of Remal hit Mandarbaria in Satkhira district of Bangladesh.

Then, last Sunday between 10:30 pm and 12:30 pm, the main part of the storm entered the land and at that time the speed of the storm was 110 to 120 km per hour. Wind gusts reached 135 kilometers per hour due to occasional gusts.
