At least 14 people have died in flash floods and landslides in Nepal due to continuous heavy rains in the last few days. Nine more people are missing. AFP reported this information with reference to the Nepalese police on Sunday.
Neighboring countries India and Bangladesh also suffered massive damage and affected millions of people. Nepal Police spokesman Dun Bahadur Karki told AFP that the police are working with other agencies and locals to try to rescue the missing people.
In most South Asian countries, death and destruction are caused by the continuous rains of the monsoon season from June to September every year. However, the level of deadly floods and landslides has increased in recent years.
According to experts, natural calamities such as floods and landslides have increased due to climate change and increased number of road constructions.
Several low-lying areas have already been submerged. Especially, this trend is seen in the Indo-Nepal border districts.
Last month there was a heavy storm in Nepal. At least 14 people died in landslides, lightning and flooding caused by the storm. Six people died in last 24 hours in Assam, India.
