Gunfight in India's Jammu and Kashmir, 8 killed including 2 soldiers

Two Indian soldiers and six terrorists were killed in two separate gunfights in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Another soldier was injured in the incident. Clashes are still going on in several villages of the region, police said.

Inspector General of Kashmir Police Vidhi Kumar Bardi said the authorities had conducted “two separate operations” in several villages in the disputed region’s Kulgam district. Two members of the security forces were killed. However, clashes continued in Moderagram and Frisal Chinnigam villages, he said.

According to news media NDTV, the first gunfight took place near an army camp in Rajouri district. A soldier was injured during this. Initial reports indicated an attempted terrorist attack on the Manjakot army camp overnight.

Security forces comprising CRPF, Army and local police launched a search operation based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists. Then the first gun battle took place in Modergam village. A para-trooper was seriously injured during the firing.

Security forces conducted an all-out attack on a house in the operation. Terrorists took shelter in the house. The attack continued till late Saturday night. The body of a terrorist was recovered on Sunday morning.

Simultaneously, the second gun battle took place in Frisal area of ​​Kulgam. Drone footage released after a long gunfight showed dead bodies of four terrorists. One soldier was killed and another injured in the clash.

The authorities suspect that two more terrorists are hiding at the place of gunfight. Security forces have surrounded the area.
