Modi's visit to Russia begins on Monday, what is on the agenda?

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia tomorrow, Monday (July 8). Modi will travel to Moscow on Putin’s invitation to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. This is Modi’s first visit to Russia since the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. The Prime Minister of India will stay there on July 8 and 9.

On Saturday (July 6), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Russian state television channel (VGTRK) that Prime Minister Modi is going to have a full and meaningful visit to Moscow, and they believe that the two leaders will also discuss informal issues during this visit.

Earlier on Thursday (July 4), the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement in Delhi that during the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin will hold extensive discussions on multifaceted relations between India and Russia. Besides, Modi and Putin will exchange views on contemporary regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Peskov said that several agendas will dominate the discussion. This is an official visit and we hope the talks between the heads of the two countries will be friendly.

Peskov said, “Russian-Indian relations are at the stage of strategic partnership. There will be direct talks between the two leaders in the Kremlin and delegations from both countries will be present.

He further said, “We are expecting a very fruitful and comprehensive visit, which is important for Russia-India relations.”

Modi’s last visit to Russia was in 2019. when he attended an economic conference in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

Observers say the annual summit between the Indian Prime Minister and the Russian President is going to be the highest institutional dialogue on the two countries’ strategic partnership.
