A clean-up campaign has been carried out on Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, located in Nepal. There is so much garbage that it has become a threat to the environment.

The news agency Associated Press (AP) reported that the cleaning operation was carried out in the last few days at the highest camp of Everest. Sherpas and members of the Nepalese army work in it. The expedition was funded by the Government of Nepal.

These Sherpas and soldiers have been able to remove 11 tons of garbage from Everest. Among which was a skeleton, four dead bodies.

This group was led by Babu Sherpa. He told the AP news agency that he had cleared much of his dirt from Everest’s highest camp. Most of which are old tents, some food packs, gas cartridges, oxygen bottles, tent packs and ropes.

He also said that they were frozen at the height of 8 thousand feet of Everest. Because of this it was very difficult to remove them.

In this expedition, Sherpas worked on top of Everest. On the other hand, the soldiers were in the lower part.

Babu Sherpa told AP that 40 to 50 tons of garbage still remain in the highest camp of Everest.

The first man set foot on Everest in 1953. After that, thousands of people climbed to the top of this mountain. Many of them left behind the things they had brought with them.

However, in the last few years, the government of Nepal has started imposing strict measures in this regard. They are stipulating that climbers who go to Everest must bring their trash with them when they return.

This has now reduced the amount of garbage on Everest. But the mountaineers who once left behind the garbage have now become a threat.

It was quite a difficult expedition as the expedition was carried out at a height of 8 thousand feet above sea level. Participating Sherpas faced difficult obstacles such as severe weather and lack of oxygen.
