After Modi, Amit Shah is accused of insulting, case in the name of Rahul

After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a case has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for making defamatory comments about Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Rahul will appear in Sultanpur court of Uttar Pradesh on Friday in this case.

According to a report in Anandabazar newspaper, Rahul had made derogatory comments against Amit Shah while campaigning for the assembly polls in Karnataka in 2018. Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a case against Rahul in Sultanpur court on this charge. In February this year, the court granted Rahul’s bail plea and directed him to appear in person. However, due to non-compliance with this order of the court, the Sultanpur court gave the last opportunity to appear on July 26. A defamation case was also filed against Rahul by the Karnataka BJP during the campaign for the 2023 assembly polls.

Incidentally, on March 23 last year, Gujarat’s Surat Magistrate’s Court judge HH Verma sentenced Rahul to two years for making offensive comments using the name ‘Modi’ in Kolar, Karnataka during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. In the case of ‘criminal defamation’ filed by former Gujarat minister and BJP MLA Purnesh Modi, Rahul’s Lok Sabha membership was also revoked. After this, the Gujarat High Court upheld the sentence, but a bench of former Justice RS Gavai and Justice PK Mishra stayed the verdict of the Surat court. As a result, in addition to being spared in this journey, Rahul also regained the position of Member of Parliament.
