Wall collapse during religious ceremony in India, 9 killed

9 children died when a wall collapsed near a temple during a religious ceremony in Madhya Pradesh, India. Several other children were injured in the incident. They were rescued and admitted to the hospital.

The shocking incident took place near Hardaul Baba Mandir in Shahpur of Sagar district on Sunday (August 4) local time.

Local authorities said children were making the Shivalinga at the temple as part of a religious ceremony. Then the wall of a house next to the temple collapsed on them. The administration said that this house, which is about 50 years old, was washed away by heavy rains.

After this incident, the police carried out rescue operations with the help of local residents. Top officials reached the spot. The district officials said that the children injured in the accident are aged 10-15 years.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident. He said, “I hope the injured will recover soon. My condolences to the families of those who have lost their children.

At this time, he assured that the government will provide assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to each family.

The incident happened a day after four children died when a wall collapsed in the state’s Rewa district. Children aged 5-7 years were returning from school that day. On the way, a wall of a house collapsed on them. The owners of the house have been arrested.

Wall collapses are often reported in Madhya Pradesh due to heavy rains. Around 200 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the state this year. About 206 houses were completely damaged. And 2 thousand 403 houses have suffered partial damage.
