Bangladesh-like situation may occur in India too: Congress leader

Recently in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell due to the student uprising due to the anti-discrimination student movement. India’s former Union Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid has commented that a coup like Bangladesh can happen in India as well.

The Congress leader made the remarks while attending a book launch event on Tuesday. After that, a huge debate started in the country around his comments.

Salman Khurshid said at that time, everything may seem normal in Kashmir. It may seem that everything here is normal. We may be celebrating victory. Although some people believe, neither that victory nor the success of 2024 was so great. Perhaps more needs to be done. The point is – there is something deeper here.

After that he said, ‘What is happening in Bangladesh can happen here too. The same way that the protests spread in the country have been prevented, the same issue has exploded in Bangladesh. A situation like Bangladesh can be created here too.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders strongly condemned Salman Khurshid’s comments. They also termed him as an ‘anarchist’ leader.

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala said that the Congress party has said that they stand by the Indian government on the issue of Bangladesh. Because this is not a political issue and should not be politicized. But their leader Salman Khurshid tried to incite the people of India.

BJP MP Sambit Patra has criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visit. He said Khurshid’s comments revealed the “real motive” of Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visit.

The BJP MP said, “Salman Khurshid warned on behalf of the Congress that protests and arson may start in India as well.” What happened in Bangladesh can also happen in India. Many other leaders including Shashi Tharoor were present there and in a way they supported that statement.

Regarding Rahul’s foreign visits, Sambit Patra said that whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, he secretly meets many people and speaks against India. Now we know what his purpose is.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said about Salman Khurshid’s comments, “I cannot explain what exactly he meant by such comments.” However, the student-crowd movement in Bangladesh has given a larger message about the importance of democracy and free and fair elections.

Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign on Monday in the face of the popular uprising created around the anti-discrimination movement. Immediately after resigning, he fled to India in an Air Force helicopter. Currently staying in India, he is planning to seek political asylum in some countries of the world.

There has already been an indication from the UK government not to grant asylum to Sheikh Hasina. Besides, the US government has also canceled Sheikh Hasina’s visa.
