Pakistani youths are looking for their life partner by breaking the conservative tradition. A UK-based marriage management app ‘Muz’ recently organized a conference for marriageable youth in Lahore to make marriage easier.
The app claims that they proceed with the marriage talk according to Islamic etiquette. The app is limited to Muslims. It does not show explicit images without the user’s consent and they can meet only if both parties meet the conditions.
The main objective of the app was to enable marriageable people to choose their life partner according to their heart. As well as making marriage easier. Especially choosing a lifelong partner, bypassing the country’s conservative society. Through the app, the bride and groom can meet directly through the event after the introduction.
A 31-year-old woman named Aymen, who did not want to reveal her full identity, said she started using the app on the advice of her brother in the United States.
He said, ‘I have been using the app for two consecutive weeks. Then I see an ad for this event. Then I thought, why should I refrain from getting to know some people directly?’
Aymen also said that his mother wanted to come with him but she did not come due to illness.
Muaz, 27, said he has been using Mooz for a year and hopes to find a life partner through the app. He said, ‘I match with many. But they all have different needs.
Muaz said that most of the female users of this app are more interested in having their parents with them from the beginning.
One of the organizers, Noor-ul Ain Chowdhury, said the event had been criticized online for promoting a ‘hook-up culture’. However, he denied the allegations and said, ‘This arrangement was mainly for the singles to sit together and so that everyone could finish the ceremony safely; We had a strict view on that.
In Pakistan, a country of about 240 million people, the marriage of young people is decided by the parents. They select their desired-matched mates for their respective offspring.
Generally, the custom of marriage within the respective community and even within one’s extended family is prevalent in the country. Dating apps or marriage apps are still considered taboo in the country.
It should be noted that Moose was first launched in Britain in 2015. The country has a significant Muslim population. The app also has more than 1.5 million users in Pakistan. However, the most users of this app are in the African country of Morocco.
