Ban on use of social media by government employees in Pakistan

Government employees cannot use social media in Pakistan without permission. The government of Pakistan has taken this step to prevent the leakage of official information.

According to an office memorandum of the Government of Pakistan, the instructions under the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1964 are to be followed. According to the order, government employees will not be allowed to use any social media platform.

According to the memorandum, public servants cannot express opinions or information that affect the reputation of the government. Also they are not allowed to speak against government policies.

The memorandum also states that public servants cannot share their views or speeches on social media without permission. Government servants are often seen arguing on social media. The guidelines are not intended to prohibit the positive use of social media. Strict action will be taken against government employees for violating this directive.

In that memorandum, the central secretaries, additional secretaries, heads of departments and principal secretaries of Pakistan have been asked to implement these instructions.
