CPR survey: India and Pakistanis do not trust each other, except Bangladeshis

Indians don’t trust Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistanis also do not trust India. However, Bangladeshis trust both countries almost equally, according to a recent survey by the Indian Center for Policy Research (CPR). The survey was conducted to see how attitudes towards other countries are changing among citizens of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan within South Asia.

The survey conducted jointly with ‘Civoter Foundation’ also showed that majority of people in all three countries think that the partition of the Indian subcontinent was the right decision. This includes the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 and the separation of Pakistan and Bangladesh in 1971.

In the survey, 12,258 people from three countries tried to know their thoughts on the partition of the country and some issues in their respective countries.

According to the survey, about 78 percent of Indians said they do not trust Pakistan. In contrast, 60 percent of Pakistanis surveyed said they did not trust India. However, the most positive attitude was seen among the Bangladeshi respondents. In the survey, 66 percent of Bangladeshis said they trust India, while 63 percent of them trust Pakistan.

Almost everyone who took part in the survey agreed that the division of the country was correct. But the few people who misjudged this division were mostly Indians.

Citizens are moderately satisfied with the economic development of their respective countries. They are also very optimistic about the future.
