India-Maldives signed an exchange agreement worth 400 million dollars

India-Maldives are mending the old bitter relationship. Both countries are committed to strengthening mutual friendship by forgetting old conflicts. Maldives President Mohammad Muijju arrived in Delhi on Sunday with his wife on a five-day state visit.

He was given a formal reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan as usual on Monday. At that time, the two leaders had a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Randre Modi. After that at 1 o’clock several agreements were signed to expand the area of cooperation between the two countries.

According to a report of Times of Hindustan, 400 million currency exchange agreement has been signed between India and Maldives.

Muijju welcomed this decision by the Government of India as a currency exchange agreement. Several of these agreements include political, development, business, health and other sectors.

Earlier, after arriving in India on Sunday, the country’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met him. The two had a round of discussion. On Monday morning, Muijju went to Rajghat to pay his respects at Mahatma Gandhi’s tomb.

Muijju was elected president last year. India was opposed to his election campaign. His election slogan was ‘Out India’. This leader, who is known as pro-China, chose not to come to India on his first foreign visit to Türkiye as per tradition. Then he went to China. After winning, he set a deadline for the return of 88 Indian troops stationed in the Maldives. India accepted that demand and withdrew its troops. However, Muijju tried to normalize the relationship even before that.

However, on a bilateral visit on Sunday, Muijju said, “Maldives will never do anything that undermines India’s security and will always consider New Delhi as a valuable partner and friend.”

Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Narendra Modi formally welcomed Mohammad Muijju on Sunday. After formally welcoming him, Muijju left for Rajghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi. He then held bilateral talks with the Prime Minister at Hyderabad House. Muizz also highlighted his administration’s initiatives to accelerate growth and development through various international cooperations without mentioning China by name.

Highlighting his ‘Maldives First’ policy, he said it was necessary for the Maldives to diversify its international relations and reduce over-dependence on any one country. But he assured that such initiative would not undermine India’s interests.

He said, “Respect for our neighbors and friends is in our DNA.” He also urged Indian tourists to visit his country. Said Indians contribute positively to their tourism. Indian tourists are welcome. Tourism is the most important economic sector in the Maldives; Which was threatened by the diplomatic dispute with India last year.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said about the visit, a “new chapter” is going to begin to restore troubled relations. He said, “India will always stand by the side for the development and prosperity of the people of Maldives.”

Modi also said, ‘Development partnership is an important pillar of our relationship. We have always put the priorities of the Maldivian people first. Maldives has a prominent role in our Neighborhood Policy and Ocean Vision. India has always played the role of a responder for Maldives.
