Imran Khan isolated in dark cell, prevented from calling sons

Jemima Khan Goldsmith, ex-wife of Pakistan’s former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, has raised alarm over his treatment in prison, citing “serious and concerning developments.”

Imran Khan has been detained since August 2023 on multiple charges, which his supporters claim are politically motivated, reports Sky News.

In a post on X, Khan Goldsmith said that Pakistani authorities have halted all visits from family and lawyers.

She also revealed that her former husband has been in complete isolation since 10 September, with no phone contact with their sons, who reside in London.

“He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being,” she said.

She also claimed that the jail’s cook had been sent on leave, and that electricity and lights in Khan’s cell had been turned off, preventing him from leaving his cell.

Her comments come as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which Imran Khan leads, warned that his health is “reportedly deteriorating… and his life is clearly in danger.”

Jemima Khan Goldsmith, a British journalist and screenwriter, revealed she had brought Imran Khan’s case to the attention of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy but has yet to receive a response.

She said, “This is not about politics – it’s about my children’s father, his human rights, and international law.”

She also revealed being targeted with rape threats over Pakistani political matters, claiming, “For the past few years, I’ve been bullied and harassed into silence by PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, the ruling party] goons, including rape threats and countless conspiracy theories.”

She further called for the release of Imran Khan’s nephew and two sisters, who have also been detained by Pakistani authorities.
