Dhaka: A comprehensive study has shed light on the intricate interplay between CO2 emissions, globalization, economic growth, and energy consumption – both renewable and non-renewable – in South Asian countries spanning the years from 1985 to 2019. Utilizing a robust analytical approach known as the fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) method, the research aimed to discern the complex dynamics at play in the region’s environmental landscape.

The empirical findings of this extensive study have yielded significant insights:

Globalization and CO2 Emissions: The study has revealed a positive correlation between globalization and CO2 emissions in South Asian countries. While globalization fosters economic integration and exchange, it also appears to contribute to increased carbon emissions, highlighting the challenges faced by the region in reconciling economic development with environmental sustainability.

Non-Renewable Energy Consumption and Environmental Pollution: Notably, the research underscores the adverse environmental impact of non-renewable energy consumption. As these countries continue to rely on traditional energy sources, the toll on the environment becomes more pronounced. This underscores the urgency of transitioning towards cleaner, sustainable energy alternatives.

Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC): The study’s findings align with the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis. Initially, as economic growth surges, environmental degradation tends to increase. However, the research also suggests that there exists a turning point. Beyond a certain threshold of economic development, environmental degradation starts to decline. This insight has crucial implications for policymakers seeking to balance economic expansion with environmental protection.

Promotion of Green Energy Sources: To address the mounting challenge of environmental degradation, the study recommends a proactive approach. Countries in the South Asian region are urged to promote and subsidize green energy sources. This shift towards renewable energy not only aligns with global sustainability goals but also offers a path to mitigate the adverse environmental impacts associated with traditional energy sources.

Additionally, the research team has committed to making the raw data supporting these conclusions available to the public without reservation. For those interested in accessing the datasets used and analyzed during the study, the corresponding author is open to reasonable requests, further enhancing the transparency and reproducibility of this vital research.

As South Asian nations grapple with the intricate dance between economic growth and environmental stewardship, this study provides valuable insights that can guide informed policy decisions and actions to energize sustainable development in the region.
