Afghan Delegation Visits China to Boost Energy Investment

The Ministry of Energy and Water has announced that a delegation led by acting Minister Abdul Latif Mansoor has traveled to China to explore opportunities for energy investment.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Matiullah Abid, Abdul Latif Mansoor is expected to participate in several meetings focusing on energy and investment during his visit.

“He is scheduled to attend a special energy conference where several regional and global countries have also been invited,” said Matiullah Abid.

Meanwhile, economists highlight the critical importance of attracting investment in Afghanistan’s energy sector. They believe that if China invests in this sector, it could help meet the country’s energy needs.

Mir Shaker Yaqubi, an economic expert, said: “China’s cooperation in managing water resources and utilizing electricity generation equipment or turbines could be vital for Afghanistan; however, this depends on whether we can provide the necessary opportunities for China’s collaboration in the country.”

Similarly, during a meeting with the acting Minister, a company official expressed interest in investing in the construction of five energy substations from Ghazni to Kandahar.

Amanullah Ghalib, the former head of the Breshna Company, emphasized that investment in infrastructure projects related to the energy sector would not only create jobs but also enhance Afghanistan’s energy production and supply capacity.

He added, “The only solution is to encourage the private sector. By promoting private sector involvement, Afghanistan can develop its production resources and resolve the issues related to networks and substations.”

Despite Afghanistan possessing sufficient resources for energy production, the country continues to import more than 80% of its electricity from neighboring countries.
