Aid to Pakistan in making missiles, ban on Chinese firms
The US has imposed sanctions on several Chinese research institutes and companies, accusing them of helping Pakistan develop ballistic missiles.
The US State Department imposed the ban on Thursday local time.
This information is known from the report of the news agency Reuters.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement that the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry worked with Pakistan to test rocket motors for the Shaheen-3 and Ababil systems and procure equipment for a possible larger system.
Miller said the sanctions were imposed on Pakistan-based innovative equipment and Chinese nationals, as well as China-based firms Hubei Huachongda Intelligent Equipment Company, Universal Enterprise and Jian Longde Technology Development Company. These companies have been accused of knowingly transferring equipment despite missile technology restrictions.
This is not the first such US ban. Earlier in October 2023, the US had imposed sanctions on three Chinese companies for allegedly cooperating with Pakistan in missile-making equipment.
In this regard, Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, told Reuters that China strongly opposes unilateral (US) sanctions and interference in extrajudicial areas. Because such activities are not sanctioned by international law or the UN Security Council.
He said China will firmly protect the rights and interests of its country’s companies and individuals.
