All Indian troops left Maldives

The deadline was May 10. But India withdrew all troops from Maldives long before that deadline. All 89 army personnel deployed in the island nation have returned to India. It is to be noted that after winning the election, the President of Maldives, Mohammad Muijju, decided to ‘drive out’ the Indian army from the country.

According to NDTV, 89 Indian Army personnel were working in Maldives for several years. They operated two Indian helicopters and an airplane in the Maldives. However, President Muijju’s first decision was to withdraw Indian troops from Maldives. After that, an agreement was signed between the two countries on February 2. According to the agreement, 89 Indian soldiers and their associates should be removed from the Maldives by May 10. However, the spokesperson of the Maldives President said that the Indian army officers and members left the country before the deadline of May 10. For this, India had started the process of moving the army a few days ago. 25 Indian Army soldiers returned home on March 12. Currently, Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Zamir is on a visit to India. There are ongoing discussions to normalize the relations between the two countries.
