Amit Shah involved in violence against Sikhs, alleges Canada

Canadian officials have claimed that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah is leading violence and intimidation against Sikh separatists in Canada. This information was reported by the US newspaper The Washington Post in a report.

Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison confirmed the information to The Washington Post in a parliamentary panel on Tuesday (October 29).

Morrison said that the journalist called me and asked if Amit Shah was the person? I confirmed to him that yes, he was the person. However, he did not provide any evidence or additional information in this regard. However, India has always rejected such allegations by Canada as baseless.

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had informed about the involvement of Indian agents in the murder of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In September 2023, Prime Minister Trudeau told the Canadian Parliament that the allegations of Indian involvement in the murder were based on Canadian intelligence information. He called the incident a violation of Canada’s sovereignty.

There was no immediate comment from the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead by two masked gunmen outside the Sikh temple he led in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023. Canadian police described his killing as a “planned attack”.

Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was an active supporter of the Khalistan movement, which has been demanding a separate state for the Sikhs.

Diplomatic tensions between India and Canada have been high since the killing of a Sikh leader in Canada last year.
