Assembly Elections: NDA in Maharashtra, ‘India’ alliance wins in Jharkhand
The results of the assembly elections in two Indian states have already been announced. In Maharashtra, the BJP-led alliance NDA (also known as the ‘Mahahuti’ alliance) has won by a huge margin. On the other hand, in Jharkhand, the opposition alliance ‘India’ (also known as ‘Maha Vikas’ Aghadi’) has won 56 seats.
This information was reported by the Indian media NDTV in a report.
The results of the Maharashtra assembly elections as of last news show that the BJP-led alliance has won 235 seats out of the 288 seats and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray)-NCP-Congress alliance has won 49 seats.
In the Lok Sabha elections held in May, the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi had won 30 seats out of the total 48 seats in Maharashtra. The picture has completely changed in just five months.
On the other hand, in the 81-seat Jharkhand assembly, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance won 56 seats and the BJP alliance won 24 seats.
After the party’s landslide victory in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a post on social media X (formerly Twitter) in the evening, “Development has won, good governance has won, united we will reach greater heights. I thank the brothers and sisters of Maharashtra, especially the youth and women of the state, who have given a historic mandate to the NDA.”
Modi also said about the defeat in Jharkhand, “I thank the people of Jharkhand for standing by us. We will always come forward to raise public issues and work in the state. I congratulate the JMM-led alliance for good results in the state.”
Meanwhile, by-elections were also held there after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resigned as the MP from Wayanad in Kerala. Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, contested the election.
Priyanka defeated her nearest rival, Communist Party of India candidate Sathyan Mokeri, by over 410,000 votes. This was her first time contesting the election.
