'Bangladesh and Maldives to work together on climate diplomacy'

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that Bangladesh-Maldives will work together to expand climate diplomacy and eco-tourism.

He said this in a meeting with Maldives Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Tariq Ibrahim on the sidelines of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Program (SACEP) conference held in Thimpu, Bhutan on Wednesday (June 26).

Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that Bangladesh and Maldives will work in coexistence in climate diplomacy. It is proposed to organize a joint program in ecotourism combining the beaches of Bangladesh and the Maldives.

Besides, he urged to expand the employment of Bangladeshi workers in Maldives and ensure their welfare.

Maldives Minister Tariq Ibrahim sought cooperation in importing fruit, forest and medicinal tree seedlings from Bangladesh and setting up nurseries.

Tariq Ibrahim said that the Maldivian labor market has reopened for Bangladeshis. As a result, the number of workers in Bangladesh will increase. Besides, the use of Geo satellite of Bangladesh for monitoring the change in sea level was also discussed.

He said, this collaborative effort between the two countries will play an important role in combating climate change and expanding eco-tourism.
