Bangladesh eyes on latest version of fourth generation nuclear technology

The use of fourth generation nuclear technology is increasing in various fields including power generation in the world. Scientists say that these new generation technologies are more advanced, safer and environment friendly than before. The question is coming, what is the position of Bangladesh in this case? Policymakers say eyes are on the latest version of technology. However, Bangladesh will use it only after the approval of the International Atomic Energy Commission.

Multifaceted research is underway into improved versions of technology for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, resulting in fourth-generation technology. A 300 megawatt nuclear power plant is being built in Seviersk, Siberia, Russia, under the project called Prorev or Yugantakari. Where sits the fourth generation reactor BREST OD-300.

Russia does not stop here in the application of new generation nuclear technology. A visit to the country’s Bulyorsk nuclear power plant showed that preparations for the construction of the fifth unit are underway at the center. Where will sit the fourth generation reactor BN-1200. And it is supposed to come into production by 2032.

The main theme of the recently held Atomexpo in Sochi, Russia was the development of fourth generation nuclear technology. The question comes, what is special about it, which will give something new to the world?

Russian scientists and engineers say that the fourth generation technology will be more advanced, affordable and safe in terms of economy, safety and environment. Reduces carbon emissions.

Advanced reactors will be able to produce electricity more efficiently. You don’t even have to think about the availability of fuel. Spent fuel can be used to generate electricity. Nuclear power plants can be built in a small space due to the small size of the reactor or reactor.

Andrey Smelov, head of technical props at Russia’s Belyarsk nuclear power plant, said the key criteria for the fourth generation is the future development of nuclear energy. This technology will be environmentally friendly and economically viable. And safety will come first.

The VVER 1200 reactor installed at Rooppur, Bangladesh’s only nuclear power project, is of three plus generation technology, the latest version before the fourth generation. Naturally, the question arises, Bangladesh is thinking of any kind of technology in Rooppur’s second project?

Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. Md. Shaukat Akbar said, we will first see how the design is. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will then be contacted. A construction for a fourth generation remains to be seen. We will communicate when we have international guidelines and all recommendations for new countries to be approved by the IAEA.

The fourth generation technology will be the leader in the nuclear industry of the future, according to various exhibitions at the Russian Atom Expo.
