Bangladesh-India friendship bridge will be opened on the day

The construction of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge over the Feni River has been completed. The land port will also be completed by August. The bridge will then be opened to the public from September this year. It will connect Tripura’s Sabrum city with Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachari in Bangladesh.

Kiran Gite, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Tripura state government confirmed this information in a recent press conference.

The 1.9 km long bridge connects Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari district of Bangladesh with the southern city of Tripura, Sabrum. In 2015, the construction of India-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge was announced. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the bridge in June that year.

The bridge is a single span concrete structure that is a symbol of the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India. The bridge has been designed with utmost importance for easy and risk free movement of vehicles and cargo.

The India-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge has been constructed under the overall supervision of the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) of India. When fully operational, it will establish a direct bridge connection with Chittagong division of North Eastern region of India and direct transportation of goods from Chittagong and Mongla ports to West Bengal and Tripura will be possible.

India-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge will also reduce the distance between Kolkata and Chittagong. Currently Chittagong is connected by sea only through Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
