Bangladesh is the third most peaceful country in South Asia

Bangladesh ranks third in the list of the most peaceful countries in South Asia in the World Peace Index. Bangladesh is ahead of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the list. This information has been reported in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2024 report.

The Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace released the Global Peace Index 2024 on Tuesday (June 11). It ranks countries by assessing social security and safety, militarization and ongoing internal and international conflicts.

Bangladesh ranked 93rd out of 163 countries with a score of 2.126 as a moderately peaceful country.

The lower the country’s score on the index, the more peaceful the country. Rwanda is 92nd, Jamaica 91st and Algeria 90th. According to the index, Bangladesh is ahead of Equatorial Guinea. The country is 94th and Mauritania 95th on the list.

The World Peace Index uses 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources and measures the state of peace in three areas. The areas are – the level of social security and safety, the extent of ongoing internal and international conflicts and the level of militarization.

Bangladesh scores 2.515 on ongoing internal and international conflicts, 2.322 on social safety and security and 1.506 on militarization.

Bhutan is ranked as the most peaceful country in South Asia. The country has held this position since 2011 in the World Peace Index. But now ranked outside the 20 most peaceful countries in the world. The country is ranked 21st in the index.

Nepal ranks 81st globally and second in South Asia. Sri Lanka is ranked 110th and fourth in South Asia and India is ranked 116th and fifth in South Asia.

According to the index, the five most peaceful countries in the world are Singapore, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Finland. On the other hand, the least peaceful countries are Ukraine (159), Afghanistan (160), South Sudan (161), Sudan (162) and Yemen (163).

Europe is named the most peaceful region in the index. It is followed by Asia and the Pacific region. The Middle East and North Africa region is shown to be the least peaceful. Four of the world’s ten least peaceful countries are in the region.

According to the report, violent crime and the fear of violence have increased in both the United States and Canada. However, Canada is only 11th with 1.449 points in the index, while the United States is 132nd with 2.622 points.
