Bangladesh may complain to ICC about July-August massacre

Chief Counsel of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim AA Khan is the chief adviser in New York. Muhammad met with Yunus. At that time, the Chief Counsel said, Bangladesh can complain to the ICC about the July-August massacre.

The meeting took place at the UN headquarters on Thursday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

During the meeting, Karim AA Khan briefed Professor Yunus about the latest developments in the Rohingya torture investigation by the ICC in 2019.

At this time he said that he will visit Bangladesh by the end of this year.

He appreciated Professor Yunus’s three-point proposal to bring new momentum to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

The chief adviser made the proposal in a meeting at the UN headquarters on Wednesday. At that time, the chief prosecutor of ICC also spoke there.

Among the proposals are – an emergency conference of the UN chief to review the overall situation and proposals to be made, strengthening the joint assistance plan to resolve the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya and a sincere international effort to ensure justice and accountability for the 2017 genocide in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.

Karim Khan said, “These three points are correct.”

Professor Yunus asks Karim Khan about the process of filing a case of crimes against humanity at the ICC against those responsible for the massacres during the July-August Revolution. At least 700 people were martyred and more than 20 thousand people were injured in this revolution.

Karim Khan said, Bangladesh can definitely file a complaint in the Hague-based court. However, he said, proper rules have to be followed to file a case of crimes against humanity in the ICC.
