Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Kejriwal was arrested in the Excise case before the Lok Sabha elections. However, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the middle of the election. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will have to remain in Tihar Jail for the time being as the application for extension of that bail has been rejected.
It is learned that Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday rejected his plea to extend his interim bail.
Before this, he surrendered and went back to jail after the interim bail expired last Sunday. On Wednesday, he applied to extend the bail period by 7 days citing illness.
Before going back to jail, many thought that Kejriwal would resign from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi and make his wife or any other leader of the party the Chief Minister. But nothing happened. Aam Aadmi Party has also said that their leader will run the government sitting in jail as before.
But the question has arisen – since it is not possible to hold any cabinet meeting in jail, how will Kejriwal run the government from inside the jail. According to the law, in at least 25 cases, ministers and officials cannot send files directly to the Lt. Governor without the chief minister’s signature. How to sign the Chief Minister sitting in jail?
If the file is not passed, the Delhi government will not be able to implement the decision. So there is some confusion about the governance of Delhi government. In this situation, it is believed that the Lt. Governor may recommend President’s rule in Delhi to the Center citing reasons for disruption of government work.
