The Cachar district administration has imposed restrictions on movement on the India-Bangladesh border on the occasion of the Lok Sabha elections to be held today.
This restriction has been issued on the 33.6 km border of India with Bangladesh.
The Cachar district administration of India has taken this decision to prevent illegal infiltration through the border, cattle smuggling and illegal activities during the elections.
Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha issued the order on Wednesday. According to the order, movement under Section 188 of the CrPC has been restricted to a one kilometer area along the Indo-Bangladesh border from sunset to sunrise.
The order will come into effect immediately and will remain in force for two months, the district authorities said.
Movement in the Surma River has also been restricted. Fishing can be done in the river only with the permission of the Katigora Circle Officer. Also, vehicles carrying essential commodities will be allowed to ply within five kilometers of the international border with the permission of the Katigora Circle Officer.
