Constitution amendment should not be forced: Bilawal
Recently, the political situation in Pakistan is getting heated. The demand to amend the constitution is also being raised. However, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is not in favor of this claim. According to him, no constitutional amendment can be passed without consensus among the parliamentary parties.
Speaking to reporters at Parliament House on Friday, Bilawal discussed in detail Pakistan’s politics, economy and judicial system. At that time, he acknowledged the current threat to national security and expressed regret. He also said that political games are still being played on this complex issue.
In response to a question whether the constitution will be amended, Bilawal said, “The main task of any parliament is to make laws and amend the constitution.” Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the country a unanimous constitution. After that we restored the same constitution through 18th amendment. Every political party is present in Parliament and all are represented on [a parliamentary charter] committee. Without an agreement [between these parties] it will be difficult to bring about [constitutional] amendments. No one should be forced to amend the constitution.
Bilawal Bhutto also said about the current constitution, “Every institution has faced some kind of challenge. Everyone can see that this system is not working. All our institutions including Parliament are facing problems. Journalism is also suffering at this time.
Bilawal also expressed concern over the law and order situation, “Recently, there have been incidents of terrorism in Balochistan and the situation in KP [Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa] is getting worse.” KP CM is facing problems in his own village. For the first time it is difficult to give peace to the people of Pakistan and for the first time even this issue is being politicized.’
