Controversy at the start of the Indian Parliament session

The eighteenth session of the Indian Parliament began on Monday after the formation of the new government. The Speaker of the new Lok Sabha is yet to be decided. Speaker will be elected in the country on Wednesday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi selected BJP member of parliament Bhartrihari Mahatab as pro tem or temporary speaker to run the parliament. The dispute started with this. The opposition created a storm of controversy against Modi on the opening day of the first session of the Lok Sabha for appointing Bhartrihari in violation of the rules.

After the formation of the new government, the first session of the Parliament was held on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first addressed the session. Bhartrihari called him to give a speech in Parliament. Under his supervision, the newly elected parliamentarians also read the oath. Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected after the swearing in of the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha. Bhartrihari will hold the charge until a new Speaker is elected. However, the opposition has raised questions about his appointment.

They claim that Bhartrihari, a seven-time member of parliament, has been made the temporary speaker by breaking the rules. As per rules, the most senior member of parliament is made pro tem speaker. From that point of view, the most senior member of Parliament in this year’s Lok Sabha is Suresh Kodikunnil of Congress. He is an eight-time Member of Parliament. However, the opposition has raised objections to make Bhartrihari the pro-tem speaker, excluding Suresh.

Congress MP Suresh told the news agency that the NDA government has broken the rules of the Lok Sabha. The rule was to make the member of parliament who won the most number of times the speaker pro tem. From that point of view, I am an eight-time member of Parliament, and a seven-time member of parliament. The NDA government once again insulted the opposition. So the opposition alliance ‘India’ unanimously decided to boycott the session.

Modi, however, voiced his agreement at the beginning of the session. He told reporters outside the parliament building, “Consensus is needed to run the country.” So I will always try to serve the country with everyone. I will fulfill everyone’s wishes. I want to take everyone with me.’ But he did not stop taking a dig at the opposition, especially the Congress. Addressing the opposition, he said, people want a responsible opposition party. Citizens do not want to see quarrels in Parliament.
