Death toll in Nepal rises to 41, mostly Indians

41 people died when a bus carrying passengers from Uttar Pradesh fell into a river in Nepal. Local sources in Nepal initially reported at least 14 deaths.

The death toll rose with the deaths of many others who were rescued with serious injuries. Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan confirmed the death of 41 people in a press conference on Friday night Most of the dead are from India.

Indian news agency ANI reported that there were a total of 43 passengers in the bus that crashed. The bus was going from Pokhara to Kathmandu around noon on Friday. The bus overturned in the Marshiangri river in Tanahun district of Nepal.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed grief over the tragic bus accident He spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about speedy return of dead bodies from Nepal to India Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences.

Modi, who is visiting Ukraine, wrote on social media, “Sad about the loss of life in a road accident in Tanahun district of Nepal. Condolences to the bereaved family. May the injured get well soon. The Indian Embassy is providing all possible assistance to the victims.

Pokhara to Kathmandu bus route is very popular with Indian tourists and pilgrims. Landslides on the roads and narrow roads in mountainous areas are frequent accidents in Nepal.

It should be noted that last month too, Nepal witnessed a terrible bus accident. Two passenger buses fell into the river after collapsing on the road. At least 65 people died. Among them were 7 Indians. More Indians died in this accident.
