Death toll rises to 29 in Gujarat floods

So far 29 people have lost their lives due to severe floods in India’s Gujarat. About half a million people have been evacuated to safe places. Hindustan Times reported this information in a report on Thursday (August 29).

Many rivers of the state are flowing over the boundary. Everything including roads and houses were submerged in water.

Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey said that around 50,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas. In the meantime, the army has been deployed to intensify rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that rainfall will increase further. Red alert has been issued in several districts.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on telephone and assured him of all possible assistance from the central government.
