Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested in connection with the liquor policy scam. The incident happened just a few weeks before the country’s Lok Sabha elections.

NDTV reported that he was arrested on Thursday night (March 21).

According to the report, Kejriwal became the first sitting Chief Minister in the history of independent India to be arrested. His political party, the Aam Aadmi Party, said Kejriwal would remain the chief minister of Delhi despite his arrest.

India’s central agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday evening to question him on a search warrant in the liquor policy case. AAP chief was arrested from there.

A petition was filed by Kejriwal in the same Delhi High Court. He appealed to the High Court not to take strict action against him in the excise case. But the court rejected that application. After that the ED raided.

ED has already arrested former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP MP Sanjay Singh in the liquor policy case.
