Dhaka is the second most expensive city in South Asia. And in the first place is Mumbai, India.

Mercer, a New York-based financial service provider, recently released this information in a report called ‘Mercer Cost of Living Survey-2024’.

Apart from this, other expensive cities in the world are Singapore, Zurich in Switzerland, Geneva, Basel, Bern, New York in the United States, London in the United Kingdom, Nassau in the Bahamas and Los Angeles in the United States.

India’s Mumbai is ranked 136th in this list published by Mars; Which is the top among South Asian countries. And Dhaka has become the second most expensive country in South Asia by placing at number 140 in the list.

Besides, several other cities of India have been included in this year’s list. Delhi ranks 165th, Chennai 189th, Bangalore 195th, Hyderabad 202nd, Pune 205th, Kolkata 207th.

Among other South Asian cities, Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo is 190th and Pakistan’s capital Islamabad is 224th.

According to the American media CNN, this list was prepared by the American financial survey company Mercer, taking into account at least 200 issues of 226 cities in the world. Factors to consider include—expenditure on transportation, food, clothing, household items, and entertainment.
