A three-member team from the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrived in Kolkata to probe the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar. Led by Chief Harun Or Rashid, the delegation departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this morning.

Joining Chief Harun are Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Ahad and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahidur Rahman, forming the core of the investigation committee.

In a pre-departure briefing to journalists, Harun affirmed the conviction of both Dhaka and Kolkata detectives that Akhtaruzzaman Shahin is the alleged mastermind behind the murder. Shahin, purportedly in the United States presently, will be pursued for extradition through the Inspector General of Police.

The team’s Kolkata itinerary includes a visit to the crime scene today, followed by the interrogation of Jihad Hawladar, a Bangladeshi national arrested in Mumbai, who confessed to involvement in the crime.

Meanwhile, a four-member Indian police delegation, which commenced investigations in Dhaka on May 23, is slated to conclude their inquiry today before departing.
