Discussions during Modi's meeting with Putin

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, an alliance of developing countries. In this, Modi told Putin that India believes that a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war is possible. After Modi went to meet Putin, the two were seen exchanging greetings and hugging.

This summit of the alliance, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is being held in Kazan, Russia.

Addressing Putin, the Indian Prime Minister said, “We are engaged with all parties to the Russia-Ukraine war. Our position has always been that all conflicts can be resolved through dialogue. We believe that conflicts should be resolved peacefully. India is always ready to restore peace.”

Meanwhile, a declaration will be made from this summit. Which will be known as the ‘Kazan Declaration’. In this, the five new member states will be officially declared as part of BRICS.

Modi had also visited the country last July before going to Russia to attend this BRICS summit. He also had a separate bilateral meeting with Putin, during which Putin awarded Modi with Russia’s highest civilian award.
