ED questions Kejriwal's 'sweet food' in jail, party alleges murder conspiracy

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise corruption case, has been accused of a ‘conspiracy to kill’ in Tihar Jail – his party Aam Aadmi Party (UP) has alleged.

Education, Works Department and Culture and Tourism Minister Atishi claimed that there is a conspiracy to kill Arvind Kejriwal in jail.

Atishi made this complaint against the jail administration in a press conference on Thursday.

A few hours before the press conference, the ED informed the court that despite suffering from type 2 diabetes, Kejriwal was consuming extra sugary foods like mangoes and sweets every day.

CBI and ED Special Court Judge Kaveri Bawejar Ejalas, Enforcement Directorate complained that Chief Minister Kejriwal is eating this food ‘to prepare medical ground for bail’.

In this case, the judge ordered to submit Kejriwal’s diet chart besides summoning a complete report from the Tihar Jail administration.

“Conspiracy to kill the Chief Minister is underway”

Atishi made several complaints against the jail administration and the ED. Atishi said, since March 21, Arvind Kejriwalji’s sugar level has been steadily deteriorating. He asked the prison authorities to give him insulin; But the prison authorities are refusing to give insulin. The fact that Kejriwal was not given insulin by the jail authorities only proves that there is a conspiracy to kill him.

At the same time, his claim is that BJP is conspiring to lose the election. He claimed that BJP cannot defeat Delhi’s popular Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. After that they started the conspiracy to kill Kejriwal.

The cabinet minister further claimed that the complaint made by the ED in the court is not correct. On the contrary, he has accused the Central Investigation Agency of conspiracy.

“ED is trying to stop Arvind Kejriwal from getting home cooked food while he was in jail, so that his health deteriorates and he dies.”

ED is repeatedly telling lies in the court. ED told the court that Arvind Kejriwal was consuming too much sweetened tea. He is eating a banana.’

Atishi explained, Kejriwal was consuming tea and sweets made with ‘erythritol sweetener’ prescribed by doctors in jail. Now I want to say about eating bananas, doctors always advise diabetics to keep bananas or toffee with them. He complained that he was not allowed to take insulin.

Insulin is not being given. Attempts are being made to stop bringing food from home, so that something can be mixed with the prison food. Doctors are not being consulted. These are the plots to kill Arvind Kejriwal.

Intentionally added sugar to food: ED

The ED claimed in the court that Kejriwal was deliberately eating sugary tea, mango, banana, one or two pieces of sweet, puri-aloo vegetables regularly.

The Central Investigating Agency has directly alleged that Chief Minister Kejriwal ‘wants to get bail on medical grounds’ or ‘go to hospital’ instead of jail.

After this demand of the ED, the special judge summoned the report from the officials on an urgent basis.

ED’s lawyer spoke to reporters after leaving the court. He told reporters that Kejriwal is eating mango-mishti daily, which is not good for a diabetic patient. We have produced his diet chart before the court.

On the other hand, news agency PTI reported that the Delhi Chief Minister has withdrawn the court’s plea seeking permission to consult his doctor virtually three times a week.

Kejriwal claims his blood sugar levels are fluctuating rapidly. He wanted to consult a doctor to take care of that matter.

Other accused in court

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja on Thursday ordered Chanpreet Singh, another accused in the Delhi Excise corruption case, to be remanded in judicial custody till April 23.

The ED alleged that Singh looked after the Aam Aadmi Party’s funds for the 2022 Goa assembly elections.

He was arrested on April 15. He was produced before a special court on Thursday after the ED’s custody expired.

The jail term of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who has been in jail for over a year in the same case, has been extended till April 26. Manish Sisodia joined the special court case through video conference. The CBI is investigating the allegations against him.

In that case, along with him, accused Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh also appeared in the court through video conference. Recently the Supreme Court granted his bail plea.

Delhi Excise Corruption Case

CBI and ED have alleged irregularities while making changes in Delhi Excise Policy in 2020-21. They claimed that besides the change in excise policy giving ‘unlawful advantage’ to the licensees, the license fee was reduced and the license period was also extended without the approval of the competent authority.

At the same time, the ED claimed that Aam Aadmi Party took a bribe of Rs 100 crore from the South Group in this whole incident which was used during the Goa assembly elections.

Those who got ‘special privileges’ due to the changed excise policy illegally provided benefits to the accused AAP officials. Not only this, the money accounts were also manipulated for fear of being caught.

Manish Sisodia, accused in this case, was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023. Later, ED arrested him on charges of money laundering on March 9 of that year. Manish Sisodia resigned from the Delhi Cabinet on March 28, 2023.
