Electricity supply from Adani center to Bangladesh is completely stopped
India’s Adani Group’s coal-fired power plants have been completely shut down. An average of about 1500 megawatts of electricity was available from the two units of the centre.
The first unit of the center was already shut down for routine maintenance. Meanwhile, power generation from the second unit also stopped last Friday due to a technical fault. As a result, there is a big shortage in electricity supply in the country.
In a message sent from Adani Power Plant on Saturday night, it was informed that power supply will be resumed from the second unit within the next two days. The message said, “Work is underway to fix the technical error.”
Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the state transmission agency that supplies electricity from the power plant to the national grid, said that production was halved from June 25 due to a technical fault in the second unit. Production was ramping up slowly, but it stopped completely at 9:43 a.m. on Friday. The center is investigating the error.
Earlier, the first unit of Adani power plant went under maintenance due to low demand during Eid holidays. It may return to production on July 5. The production capacity of the two units is 1600 MW. Due to the sudden cut off of supply, there has been a major shortage in electricity supply in the country.
Apart from this, one unit of Payra power plant is closed for maintenance since June 25. This leads to load shedding in rural areas outside Dhaka. However, there was some relief on Saturday as the demand for electricity was low due to rain across the country.
BPDB Member (Production) Khandkar Mokammel Hossain said that the first unit of Adani’s power plant is scheduled to come into production on July 5. And due to the sudden stoppage of supply from the second unit, the shortage has been created.
It should be noted that the first unit of Adani’s power plant started supplying electricity with an average of 750 MW in March last year. Production from the second unit started in June.
